Varsity Golf claims first title of the season

The Hurricanes varsity golfers attended the first ACAA golf event of the season on Saturday when they visited the Mactaquac golf club in Fredericton; the tournament was hosted by the St. Thomas University.

Men and women golfers from St. Thomas University, Mt. Allison University and Dalhousie University joined the Hurricanes on the course competing for the team and individual championships. The Hurricanes sent the team of Eric Locke, Brett Wilson, Justin Shanks, Neal Ryan and Mathieu Arseneault the tournament as well as individuals Luke Allen, Corey Beaver, Chance MacIntyre, Joe MacIsaac and Zach Ravn. Tariqah Walikraam was entered in the women’s division.

In the team competition the Hurricanes went on to win with a team score of 304. St. Thomas finished second when they posted a 326, followed by Mount Allison who posted 334. Team scores were made up of each team’s best four out of five player’s scores.

Individually Eric Locke and Brett Wilson from the Hurricanes tied for first place, each posting 73.

Tariqah Walikraam of the Hurricanes won the women’s individual championship by posting an 85. She went on to win by five strokes over Dalhousie’s Jescynda Cain Hotham.

The Hurricanes next tournament takes place on Sunday, September 29th at the Northumberland Links golf course in Pugwash, Nova Scotia. The event is hosted by the Dalhousie University.

The Hurricanes will host the 2013 ACAA Championships on October 5th and 6th at the Links at Crowbush Cove. The team will then travel to Royal Quebec Golf Club for the CCAA national championships that takes place October 15th to 18th.
