The men’s and women’s Hurricanes soccer teams had a busy weekend as they prepare for the start of their 2013 ACAA season.

On Saturday, both teams travelled to Saint John to take on the UNBSJ Seawolves in a pair of afternoon matches.

In the days first match the women’s ‘Canes picked up the 3-0 victory with goals from returning player Megan Spicer as well as rookies, Tori McCindle and Kristin Hood. Later in the afternoon the men’s team was downed 2-1 in their first exhibition game of the season. Josh Martin scored the loan ‘Canes goal. The UNBSJ Seawolves will host the 2013 CCAA Men’s national soccer champions this October.

Following Saturdays games in Saint John the teams continued on to the University of Maine Fort Kent prior to their games with the Fort Kent Bengals and the University of Vermont Tech Knights.

On Sunday, the ‘Canes first took on the Vermont Tech Knights. The Hurricanes were firing on all cylinders during Sunday’s match which seen goals come from Kristin Hood (3), Rebecca Levy (2), Laura Younker (2), Tori McCrindle, Megan Spicer, Molly Gallant and Morgan La Vie . The Women Hurricanes went on to win the game 11-0.

The trend continued in the men’s games later that afternoon. The men’s Hurricanes also went on to find the back of the net eleven times in their 11-0 victory of the Knights. Goal scorers were Gabriel Subanovich (3), Blake Ferrish, Tyler Ellis, Louis Barriault, Simon Hood, Sam Bishop, Nathan Veld, Evan Forrester and Nick Lund.

Monday marked the final day of Hurricanes pre-season games as both the men’s and women’s teams took on the University of Maine Fort-Kent Bengals. This proved to be a stiff test for the ‘Canes as the Bengals were the men’s USCAA national silver medalists in 2012.

The noon-time women’s game seen the Hurricanes drop their match 4-0 prior to the 2 pm men’s game where the ‘Canes were defeated 8-0.

Both Hurricanes teams travelled back to PEI following Mondays games and will spend the upcoming week preparing for their ACAA home opener on Saturday, September 7th when the Hurricanes host the Mount Saint Vincent University Mystics at 2pm and 4pm. The home opener weekend will continue when the ‘Canes host the University of Kings College Blue Devils at 1pm and 3pm. All games will take place at the Terry Fox Complex in Cornwall.
