Smith and Kendrick chosen as Hurricanes Athletes of the Week

Basketball players Menny Smith and Jake Kendrick have been chosen as the Holland Hurricanes Athletes of the Week for the week ending November 24.
Smith, a first year guard from Dartmouth, Nova Scotia in the Sport & Leisure Management program scored 12 points during Saturday’s game and had three rebounds while on Sunday Smith scored 10 points and had five rebounds; both games were against the Crandall University Chargers.
Head coach Mike Connolly simply said; “Menny has been our best defender”.
The Hurricanes improved to 5-1 on the season after winning both games. Saturday’s game ended with a score of 70-41 while Sunday’s game finished at 79-36 in favour of the Hurricanes.
The Hurricanes now sit in second place behind the STU Tommies who are a perfect 6-0 to this point and sitting in second in the CCAA national women’s basketball rankings. The Hurricanes currently sit in tenth.
Kendrick, a second year guard from Wolfville, Nova Scotia in the Sport & Leisure Management program scored 21 points in Saturday’s game while on Sunday he added nine points and one rebound against the Crandall University Chargers.
On Saturday in Charlottetown the Hurricanes charged back from a fourteen point deficit heading into the fourth quarter by scoring 34 final quarter points to win 83-82; while on Sunday the Chargers returned the favour as they entered the fourth quarter down by ten points but scored thirty before the final buzzer to defeat the ‘Canes 80-72.
The Hurricanes are tied for second place in the ACAA standings with a 4-2 record on the season; they entered the weekend ranked at number seven in the CCAA national men’s basketball rankings.
The Hurricanes basketball teams are in action next on Sunday, December 1st in Sackville, New Brunswick versus the Mt. Allison Mounties; game times are 2pm and 4pm.
