Smith and Boyce chosen as Hurricanes Athletes of the Week

February 25, 2014

Basketball player Mendeira (Menny) Smith and volleyball player Brandon Boyce have been chosen as the Holland Hurricanes Athletes of the Week for the week ending February 23.

Smith, a first year guard from Dartmouth, Nova Scotia is a student in the Sport & Leisure Management program. Smith made two huge three-point shots late in the fourth quarter to clinch the win in Saturday’s feisty game versus the top seeded STU Tommies. She also played a solid game in Sunday’s win against Dal-AC Rams.

The lady ‘Canes are sitting in second place going into this weekend’s ACAA Basketball Championships being held at Dalhousie Agricultural College in Truro, NS.

Boyce, from O’Leary, PE is a second year Sport & Leisure Management student and plays the power position. This past weekend in Sackville, NB at the ACAA Volleyball Championships, his experience helped guide the ‘Canes easily through the semi-finals which earned them a berth in the finals. STU Tommies were the champions.

Named ACAA Libero of the Year at last weekend’s championships banquet, Boyce has some impressive offensive numbers, something that is not normally associated with the Libero position. He is near the top of the ACAA stats with his digs per set, and passing rating.
