MVBALL | Hurricanes defeated by Mountaineers at CCAA Nationals; finish in eighth place

The Holland College Hurricanes men’s volleyball team fell to the Mohawk College Mountaineers in the seventh place game on Saturday at the 2017 CCAA Men’s Volleyball National Championship in London, ON, hosted by the Fanshawe College.
Set scores were 21-25, 19-25, 25-18, 26-24 and 15-7.
The ‘Canes finished the tournament in eighth place.
Player of the Game for the Hurricanes was Brett Butler who recorded 16 kills, three assists, two aces, six digs and two blocks.
The eventual champions were the Red Deer College Kings from Alberta who defeated the Limoilou Titans of Quebec City.
This was the second time in history that the men’s volleyball Hurricanes had competed in the National Championship, the last time in 2015 when the ‘Canes hosted the event in Charlottetown. 2017 was the first time the Hurricanes had won the ACAA Championship in team history.
