Holland College add MacDonald to Hurricanes rosters
August 21, 2013
Holland College welcomes dual-sport athlete Nick MacDonald to the Hurricanes family for the 2013-2014 season. MacDonald, a Charlottetown native, joins the men’s varsity soccer team as well as the Junior Hurricanes men’s hockey team. MacDonald is enrolled in the Marketing and Advertising program beginning in September.
MacDonald spent the 2013 soccer season as a member of the Team PEI Canada Games team as a right midfielder coached by Hurricanes head coach Jonathan Vos.
“My strong suits are my vision, ball-striking and I can also bring energy to the field” states MacDonald.
On the ice Nick played as a member of the Charlottetown Midget AAA Abbies which seen him finish fourth in league scoring with 47 points in 29 games. MacDonald was named the Charlottetown Minor Hockey Associations male Player of the Year.
When asked why he wanted to play with the Hurricanes MacDonald stated that he’s excited to be a part of the new program, and helping the Hurricanes grow into a team that can achieve its goals.
Ryan Maxwell, head coach of the men’s hockey team had this to say on MacDonald. “Nick is a player we really wanted in our lineup and we were happy to acquire him in a trade from Sherwood. He’s attending Holland College in the fall and it’s a priority for us to have as many Holland College students on the team as possible. He’s a talented player and will provide some offence and character to our lineup. I think he will enjoy being a student athlete and suiting up for the new look ‘Canes”.
When asked why Nick chose Holland College he had this to say. “I like the small school feel and atmosphere. It’s a good fit for me to enter the world of marketing and playing sports at the same time. I wanted to take advantage of the two-plus-two agreement Holland College has with different universities”.
The Hurricanes men’s soccer team will get started with their training camp on Sunday before beginning pre-season play on August 31st in Saint John followed by games in Maine on September 1st and 2nd versus Vermont Tech and University of Maine Fort-Kent. Their regular season begins on Saturday, September 7th at the Terry Fox Complex versus Mount Saint Vincent University.
The men’s hockey Hurricanes will begin their training camp on Monday, September 9th with their first home game taking place on Saturday, October 5th at the Simmons Sport Centre.
