Men’s Hockey Split Weekend Games
February 24, 2014
After a long two week layoff the canes struggled Saturday night in Evangeline as the team tried to get their legs and timing back. It was a tight checking game but ended up losing 3-1. Jonny Richards had the lone goal.
Sunday night was a much different affair against first place Kensington Vipers. The ‘Canes earned its first win in franchise history against the Vipers in a shootout. Eric Locke was the shootout hero. After leading scorer Pat Cummiskey scored his second goal of the game to put the Canes up 3-2 in the 3rd period, Kensington scored with 1:30 seconds left to tie late in the period. However with the ‘Canes no quit attitude, and amazing goaltending from Matt Derry, Adam Gardner and then Eric Locke scored to give the Hurricanes the shootout victory in Kensington.
