Men’s Hockey prepare for weekend double-header
November 28, 2013
The Holland Hurricanes return home to Simmons Sport Centre on Saturday night to take on the Montague Maniacs at 8:15 pm. The Maniacs are currently sitting in second place in the IJHL league standings with a 10-4-0 record while the Hurricanes sit in fifth place at 3-9-2.
The two teams have faced off three times this season with the Hurricanes winning the first game while the Maniacs have taken the two most recent games.
JP Provencher and Dan Gallant are expected to make their debuts with the Hurricanes since being traded from the Western Red Wings. Adam Gardner will miss Saturday’s game due to a suspension while Blake Ozon will miss both games this weekend.
Last week’s Hurricanes Player of the Week Jonny Richards is ready to get back into the win column.
“Seven losses in a row, we have to keep it simple and start winning the little battles that win hockey games. A couple wins this weekend would help us start rolling.”
On Sunday the Hurricanes will travel to Evangeline to take on the Western Red Wings at 7 pm. The Red Wings are currently sitting in fourth place with a 4-7-1 record after a 6-5 victory over the Hurricanes last Saturday night in Summerside. Through three games with the Hurricanes this season the Red Wings have won twice.
“We will be ready to go this weekend despite losing three forwards due to suspension or injury. I’m looking forward to seeing our new additions in the lineup as it’s always an interesting game against our Montague rivals. It’s tough going through a losing streak but I think there were many games we played well enough to win but weren’t able to get the result. Every game is a chance to improve and continue to mature as a team”, shared head coach Ryan Maxwell.
