Men’s hockey Hurricanes name Ozon captain
October 17, 2013
The Holland Hurricanes have named Blake Ozon captain of the men’s hockey team for the 2013-14 Island Junior Hockey League season.
Ozon becomes the fourth captain in team history, filling the vacancy left by Patrick LeFrank, who was an overage player last season.
Ozon considers the captaincy an honour.
“Being named captain is a great accomplishment in my junior career,” he said.
“I’m very excited about all the great skill and character on the ‘Canes this season, and we want to push forward in pursuit of an Island championship.”
Ozon, who turns 22 in January, is in his fourth and final IJHL season.
“As an overager, Ozy brings leadership and experience to a young team, so he’s a great fit to wear the ‘C’,” said Hurricanes head coach Ryan Maxwell.
“He’s an offensive threat whenever he’s on the ice, and he can be a real game-breaker. He leads by example, and I look forward to him having another great year.”
Ozon led the Hurricanes with 22 goals and 38 points in 24 games last season.
He’s also off to a good start this season, with six points in five games so far.
For his IJHL career, Ozon has 116 points (60 goals, 56 assists) in 97 games with the Charlottetown Abbies, the Arsenault’s Fish Mart Red Wings, and the Hurricanes.
Ozon, a Summerside native, is in the Sport and Leisure Management program at Holland College, and is one of 21 team members who are also Holland College students.
In addition to Ozon being named captain, forward and line mate Jonny Richards has been named an assistant captain, along with defencemen Will Connolly and Eric Locke.
Locke won the individual ACAA golf championship at The Links at Crowbush Cove, and is currently in Boischatel, Que., for the PING CCAA Golf Championships.
The Hurricanes will play the defending IJHL champion Kensington Moase Plumbing and Heating Vipers on Saturday at Simmons Sports Centre at 8:15 p.m.
