MBBALL | Hurricanes victorious in Saint John versus Seawolves

The Holland College Hurricanes men’s basketball team was victorious on the weekend picking up wins of 107-56 and 106-84 over the UNBSJ Seawolves on the road.

On Saturday, the ‘Canes jumped out to a 30-18 lead after the first quarter but the Seawolves would go on a run to start the second and tied the game at 32-32. Michael Kayeye would hit three straight three-pointers propelling the ‘Canes the rest of the way.

Roosevelt Whyley led all players with 30 points scored while adding ten rebounds and four steals. Chase Bowden had 21 points and four rebounds while Travis Adams and Trenity Burdine had 13 and 11 points respectively.

Kayeye finished with 12 points to go along with four rebounds and five assists.

On Sunday, the ‘Canes took a 50-27 lead into the locker room at half. Both teams would score at will in the second half as the ‘Canes would come away with a 22 point win.

Burdine scored 40 points in the game which is the third most in a single game since the start of the 2010-11 season. Burdine added seven rebounds and two assists in the win.

Whyley had another strong game with 24 points, five rebounds, four assists, and four steals while Adams was the only other player in double digits with 15 points along with four assists.

The 2017 CCAA Men’s Basketball National Championship host Hurricanes will hit the road next Saturday as they travel to Fredericton to take on the STU Tommies at 3 PM before returning home for a game against the Dal AC Rams on Sunday at 3 PM at the Holland College Centre for Community Engagement.
