MBASE | Hurricanes mixing it up with American collegiate teams
October 13, 2017
The Holland Hurricanes men’s baseball program is making a trip to the United States of America as the program is dipping into international exhibition play this weekend. They will play a pair of exhibition games in Auburn, Maine against the Central Maine Community College Mustangs.
The Hurricanes completed their regular season schedule with a record of 14-2 on October 1st, winning the Atlantic regular season championship for the second straight season, and third over the past four years.
The Saturday, October 14th international games, a first for the Holland Hurricanes men’s baseball program, are scheduled to be played at 12 and 2 pm EST.
Before making their way to Auburn the Hurricanes will visit the University of Maine Orono, located just outside of Bangor. This NCAA Division 1 campus is home to the University of Maine Black Bears baseball program. The Hurricanes will take batting practice at the facility and select pitchers will throw bullpen sessions.
Holland Hurricanes baseball head coach Andrew MacNevin stresses how important a trip like this is for the Holland College program.
“Being able to visit a Division 1 facility at the University of Maine Orono will be a great opportunity for our student-athletes to experience how NCAA student-athletes prepare and train for competition. We are hopeful that our players will take in a lot of information that will be beneficial to their future training and development.”
The Hurricanes will use this experience as a building tool as the team prepares for the 2017 Canadian College Baseball National Championship, October 26-28 in Oshawa, ON featuring the best CCAA baseball teams in the country.
“We expect this weekend of international play will be a test for our program,” said MacNevin. “We realize the value in pushing our players to the next level as we lead up to the national championship later this month. We expect the games with Central Maine to be competitive and we know our guys are prepared for the competition that awaits us in Auburn.”
