MBASE | Hurricanes begin season with Nova Scotia road trip this weekend
September 8, 2017
The Holland Hurricanes men’s baseball team will hit the road this weekend and play four road games in Nova Scotia. First is a double-header in Wolfville versus the Acadia University Axemen followed by a pair of games on Sunday in Antigonish versus the St. FX X-Men. Games begin at 1 and 3:30pm each day.
Head coach Andrew MacNevin is ready to begin the season.
“We’re excited to get going and see what this year’s team can accomplish,” he shared. “We’re looking to continue to improve our program at Holland College and to be at our best come the National Championship.”
The Hurricanes will rely on two veterans to take the ball in the season opening series. On Saturday at Acadia it is expected that Brady Arsenault will be the starting pitcher in game one while Colin Arsenault will start in game two.
Last season the Axemen finished third in the Atlantic conference with a record of 8-5.
On Sunday in Antigonish the ‘Canes are expected to go with a pair of first year starting pitchers; Zach Gosse in game one and Charles MacLellan in game two versus the X-Men.
In 2016 the X-Men went 1-11 and finished in sixth in the conference.
Finishing conference play at 14-1 last season the Hurricanes would finish as the top team in the conference before finishing third at Nationals in Oshawa, Ontario hosted by the Durham College Lords.
The Hurricanes will return home next weekend when they host their home opener on Saturday, September 16 at Memorial Field versus St. FX; game times are 1 and 3:30pm.
