June 2, 2014
The versatile player has played all over the field the last few seasons; including striker, midfield and wing defense. She has played with the Kinkora Regional High School varsity team, RC United and the Under-18 Provincial team over the past few seasons.
“I’m excited to be joining the women’s soccer team in the fall. It will be a big change going from high school soccer to the collegiate level but I am looking forward to the challenge. Soccer has always been a huge part of my life and I’m eager to play at the next level”, shared Roberts on her thoughts heading into her rookie year with the’ Canes.
“Briar is a very versatile player that can play several positions for us; she is physically strong and combined with great speed will be a tremendous asset. She is very composed with the ball and has an excellent attitude towards bettering herself in the classroom and on the field. We are very pleased to have Briar choose the Hurricanes program”, said the head coach of the Hurricanes women’s soccer program, Kris McKinnon.
In 2011 Roberts traveled with the RC United team to the Under-16 nationals in Lethbridge, Alberta and in 2012 she scored the game winning goal in the PEISAA provincial championships gold medal game; two moments she states are notable highlights of her playing career thus far.
When asked what her strengths were as a player she said, “I’m a skilled player with speed”.
“My goal for the soccer season is to balance my studies and athletics; I also want to become a better soccer player”, she shared.
The Hurricanes soccer teams will begin their training camp in late August before starting their season in early September.
The women’s Hurricanes are last year’s ACAA women’s soccer champions.
