Sydney Foy has played in the last two CCAA nationals as a member of the MSVU Mystics.

The Holland Hurricanes announced recently that Islander Sydney Foy has committed to the ‘Canes for the 2014-2015 season. Foy spend the previous two seasons with the MSVU Mystics in Halifax where she led her team to back-to-back ACAA Championships and two trips to the CCAA National Women’s Volleyball Championships. Prior to attending Mount Saint Vincent University, Foy graduated high school from Bluefield Senior High.
In 91 career games played with the Mystics, Foy averaged 2.84 kills, 2.74 digs and 3.41 points per game.
“I’m very excited to be returning home to PEI for school. I enjoyed every minute of attending MSVU but this will be a new experience and I can’t wait”, shared Foy.
Head coach Lori-Beth Dwyer is excited with the new addition to her roster.
“I am thrilled to have Foy joining our roster in the fall. She brings a great deal of competitive experience to the team, which we have been lacking, and is sure to be a leader on the court. With the addition of a player of Sydney’s caliber and along with other key additions to our roster, we will be in a strong position to push for a playoff place this season.”
Foy will be relied upon as a leader for the Hurricanes; a program that has grown very quickly under the guidance of second year head coach LB Dwyer.
“Coming in as a veteran after attending nationals for back-to-back years I feel as though I can bring knowledge to the team and we can get one step closer to a championship banner”, said Foy.
“I’ll do my best to bring as much positivity and knowledge to the team as possible; hopefully that will help us make it to the top four in the league”.
Last season the Hurricanes picked up their first ACAA regular season victory in the programs history when they knocked off a strong Mount Allison Mounties team in January here in Charlottetown. The Hurricanes volleyball program has seen an increase in its competitiveness since Lori Beth Dwyer has taken over the head coaching reigns, and players are noticing that the Hurricanes women’s volleyball program is on the rise.
“I’m very excited to be working with LB Dwyer. From what I know she has a lot of knowledge and knows how to play the game. I cannot wait to learn and improve as the season goes on”, shared Foy.
The Hurricanes kick off their ACAA regular season schedule at home on Saturday, November 1st at 6pm versus the Universite Sainte-Anne Dragons at the Holland College Centre for Community Engagement.
