Hurricanes Weekend Preview

The Holland Hurricanes kick start their 2013-2014 ACAA regular season at home this weekend when they host the Universite Sainte-Anne Dragons on Saturday and Sunday at the Holland College Centre for Community Engagement. Game time is 7pm on Saturday and noon on Sunday.
The ‘Cane are coming off of a 9-5 regular season last year which allowed them to finish in second place in the ACAA standings but seen them lose to the St. Thomas Tommies 3-2 in the ACAA men’s semi-final’s. The Sainte-Anne Dragons finished in fourth in last year’s standings with a 4-12 record.
Both Saturday and Sunday’s game are available to stream live on the web at www.acaatv.ca.
The women’s Hurricanes are also playing an exhibition game versus the UPEI Panthers on Saturday at the Holland College CCE at 3 pm.
The Holland Hurricanes men’s and women’s basketball teams are on the road on Saturday to kick off their 2013-2014 ACAA regular season in Truro, Nova Scotia when they take on the Dalhousie Agricultural College Rams. The women are in action at 3pm while the men hit the floor for a 5pm tip-off.
The women were victorious the last time these two teams met in pre-season action. Last season the Hurricanes finished in fourth with a 10-6 record while the Rams finished in eighth at 1-15.
“The team has had a successful pre-season and we’re excited to get the season started after a long training camp”, shared head coach Mike Connolly.
On the men’s side the Hurricanes are coming off of a CCAA national silver medal last season which seen them capture the ACAA Championship in dramatic fashion as well. The ‘Canes finished with a league best 14-2 record while the Rams sat at 0-16 in eighth place.
The Hurricanes are coming off of a successful weekend in Cape Breton taking on the top AUS teams in preparation of the start of the season.

The Holland College Junior Hurricanes host their Charlottetown neighbors in the Sherwood Falcons on Saturday night at 8:15 pm at the Simmons Sport Centre in Island Junior Hockey League action. The ‘Canes currently sit in fourth place with a 3-2-2 record while the Falcons sit in third at 4-4-1.
The Hurricanes Patrick Cummiskey has been on a tear to start the season sitting in fourth place in league scoring with 14 points through eight games while goaltender Matt Derry is ranked as the number one keeper in the league with a 907 save percentage in five games played.
The Hurricanes also played Friday evening on the road in Montague versus the Maniacs.
The Hurricanes kick off their 2013-2014 Eastern Canadian Collegiate Women’s Hockey League regular season this weekend when they travel to UNB to take on the Red Blazers for back to back road games at the Aitken Centre. On Saturday the puck drops at 3:15 pm while the two teams battle at 2:15 pm on Sunday.
The Red Blazers began their season last weekend when they visited the Acadian University, winning the first game 3-2 and tying the second game 3-3. The Cape Breton Capers are the fourth entrant in the ECWHL.
