June 17, 2014
The event will take place from March 10th through 15th, 2015 in Charlottetown at the Holland College Centre for Community Engagement. The top eight teams in the CCAA will compete on P.E.I. for the national men’s volleyball crown. It is believed this will be the first-ever national collegiate volleyball championship held on Prince Edward Island.
“It’s going to be a special tournament and we’re eager to showcase our college and P.E.I. to the country. This will be a large undertaking and the level of play will be extremely high. We are proud to host as we continue our efforts to assist in the development and profiling the sport of volleyball on the Island”, shared Holland College Athletics and Recreation Director Albert Roche.
The Hurricanes are the 2014 ACAA silver medalists and look to make their presence felt at the national level this season. “We’ve highlighted the top high school players available on PEI and the Maritimes and are extremely happy with our recruits thus far. We’ll continue to work to improve our roster over the coming months and into the season”, shared head coach Joe Ryan.
The Hurricanes have added talents such as Domonique Ryan, Kent Doucette, Jack Perry and Darcie Handrahan to their lineup to go along with a strong returning core of players.
The championships will highlight involvement from many programs at the college such as Sport and Leisure Management, Culinary Arts, Performing Arts and Journalism to name a few, as the students share in the experience of hosting the nation.
