The Holland Hurricanes men’s basketball team will continue their pre-season play this weekend when they host university teams from Mount Allison, Acadia and UPEI at Holland College’s Centre for Community Engagement. Games will take place on Friday and Saturday and if last weekend is any indication, the crowd will be rocking the building this weekend.

After three victories last weekend over the Lee Academy Pandas, UNBSJ Seawolves and Crandall Chargers, the Hurricanes look forward to competing against AUS teams (UPEI and Acadia) along with fellow ACAA rival Mount Allison.

On Friday the tourney kicks off with Acadia playing Mount Allison at 6PM followed at 8PM by a featured matchup with the Hurricanes hosting with their cross-town varsity neighbors, the UPEI Panthers. This is a game that will surely draw some interested fans to see how the two teams stack up against one-another.

Returning guard and Holland College athlete of the year last year, Alvin Parker is excited about the weekend. “This will be an intense set of games for all teams and our boys are very motivated about rising to the challenge. Playing at home in pre-season is awesome and it offers everyone a chance to see some super ball with high-calibre teams at our house.” Parker expects fans will enjoy the basketball product saying “UPEI, Acadia and Mount Allison run good programs and seeing new teams will help us develop as a team”

On Saturday, the Hurricanes will meet the Acadia Axemen in a morning game beginning at 10AM while the team will play a second game that day, at 4PM they will challenge the Mount Allison Mounties.

Head coach Josh Whitty is excited for the challenge this weekend brings. “We got off to a good start to our pre-season last weekend and we’ve got another great weekend of competition ahead. In UPEI and Acadia we have 2 of the best teams in the AUS, while Mt A is one of the ACAA’s best every year. All three are well coached, talented and deep. We’ll need to play our best basketball.”

Admission into the games is priced at $5 for adults while Holland College students and school-aged children are free.
