Hurricanes Mens Basketball bring in local talent
May 8, 2014
The Holland Hurricanes men’s basketball team is pleased to announce it has added 6’7” forward Aaron Robbins to their roster for the 2014-2015 season. Robbins, from Stratford, PEI has been a key member of the UPEI Panthers for the past four seasons.
“Holland College Athletics has been very supportive of their basketball program and they seem to be successful because of that. I wanted to come to Holland College to further my education and join a successful basketball program.” said Robbins.
When asked about the addition of Robbins to the lineup, Coach Whitty said, “We are thrilled about adding Aaron. He’s an excellent addition to our program and will be a major impact next season. He brings a great skill set to our team; he’s an excellent shot blocker, rebounds and runs the floor well. He’s going to be a great player for us and fits in well with the players we have coming back.”
In 20 games played last season with the Panthers, Robbins averaged 4.5 points and 4.6 rebounds per game, while shooting 50% from the field.
Coach Whitty is no stranger to Robbins, as the two have teamed up in the past and added, “I’ve coached Aaron a few times over the years, in Jr High, on Provincial teams and in High School. Having that familiarity will certainly make it a smooth transition. I’m looking forward to coaching him again next season.”
Prior to joining the Panthers, Robbins starred at Charlottetown Rural High School, where he led the power house Raiders to 3 straight Provincial Championships.
When asked about his goals for the upcoming season, Robbins has one thing in mind.
“Helping Holland College win another ACAA title and then bring a CCAA championship to the program.”
Robbins will be attending Holland College as a part of the Industrial Electrical Technology program.
