Hurricanes hosted Tip-Off tournament this weekend

The Hurricanes hosted the 2013 ACAA Tip-Off men’s volleyball tournament this weekend held at the Holland College Centre for Community Engagement. The Hurricanes welcomed the St. Clair College (Ontario), Saint Thomas University, Universite Sainte Anne and UNB Saint John to the event.

The Hurricanes first game took place on Friday night when they hosted the St. Clair College. The team from Ontario went on to win in two sets by scores of 25-14 and 25-19.

On Saturday the Hurricanes were scheduled for two games, starting with a matchup between themselves and the UNBSJ Seawolves which seen the ‘Canes win in straight sets with scores of 25-23 and 25-20.

Later that Saturday the ‘Canes took on the Universite Sainte Anne Dragons for a 6pm match. This match saw the teams go back and forth for the full three sets, with the Dragons winning in the end. The Hurricanes took the first set 25-23 while the Dragons took set two 25-20. The third and deciding set was won by USA 15-9.

The Hurricanes final match of the tournament took place on Sunday with the Saint Thomas Tommies. The Tommies were victorious in straight sets defeating the Hurricanes 25-20 in the opening set and 25-17 in the second.

The Hurricanes went 1-4 over the two days and now turn their attention to their season opener which will take place at home on Saturday, November 2nd between themselves and the Universite Sainte-Anne Dragons at the Holland College Centre for Community Engagement.
