Hurricanes golfers finish strong at nationals

The Holland Hurricanes return to PEI Saturday after competing in this week’s PING CCAA National Golf Championships at the Royal Quebec Golf Club in Quebec City. The three round event ran from Wednesday through Friday.
The Hurricanes Tariqah Walikraam was near the top of the leaderboard all tournament long and with her final round 84 to go along with rounds of 79 and 82. Walikraam went on to finish at 29 over par for the event and tied for sixth place. Valerie Tanguay of St. Lawrence went on to win the event with a 5-under par total highlighted by her opening round 67.
In the men’s division the Hurricanes were led by Eric Locke who posted rounds of 75, 70 and 75 to finish 4 over par for the event. Locke ended up finishing in a tie for eleventh position. The winner, Colton Kalkanis of Georgian College dominated the event winning by ten strokes after rounds of 68, 68 and a final round 65.
Next in line for the Hurricanes was Brett Wilson who posted rounds of 72, 76 and 73. Wilson finished in a tie for fourteenth position.
Third year player Mathieu Arseneault finished in twenty-third place with scores of 75, 73 and 77.
Justin Shanks and Neal Ryan finished in a tie for twenty-ninth place. Shanks recorded scores of 73, 79 and 75 while Ryan posted scores of 76, 75 and 76.
In the team competition the Hurricanes finished the event in fifth position. There scores of 295, 294 and 299 helped them finish one position higher than in last year’s event.
Fraser Valley went on to win the event with scores of 283, 290 and 290.
This was the final event for the Hurricanes until the Golf Canada University/College golf nationals taking place in the spring.
