Hurricanes Football Club meets Red Bombers in Fredericton Saturday
October 4, 2013
Charlottetown, PE – The Holland Hurricanes Football Club travels to Fredericton this Saturday to play the UNB Fredericton Red Bombers. Both teams are coming off losses last weekend. The Red Bombers lost to the first place UNB Saint John Seawolves 47-14, and the Hurricanes lost to the Dalhousie University Tigers 31-10. The Hurricanes are now in third place, the Red Bombers, last year’s championship winners, are in fourth.
Head coach Mark MacDougall said there’s plenty of time for the Hurricanes to improve their standing this season.
“With only four teams in the league, final playoff positions are still up for grabs,” he said. “This weekend, we need to focus on the game at hand. The Red Bombers play a disciplined game and execute well on offence and defence. We’ve had a good week of practice, and it’s always easy to get up for a game against the defending league champions. The Hurricanes are looking forward to the matchup.”
The Hurricanes have struggled on offence during the first half of the season and are anxious to put up some points this weekend. On paper, the team appears to have a well-balanced offense, but the running game has been a missing piece thus far. Coincidentally, stopping the run has been the issue for the Hurricanes defence. Given the team’s focus in practice this week, Holland College fans can anticipate improvement in both aspects of the game.
Game time is 7 p.m. at the BMO Centre on the Fredericton campus of UNB. In other AFL action, UNB Saint John Seawolves play the Dalhousie Tigers in Halifax. The next Hurricanes home game is Sunday, October 13, at 1 p.m. at the UPEI Alumni Canada Games Place.
