November 5, 2013
The Holland Hurricanes men’s and women’s basketball teams received news Tuesday that the CCAA has both teams sitting inside the top ten of their national basketball rankings; the men’s team sitting at third while the women’s team in tenth position.
The men’s Hurricanes finished with a CCAA silver medal last year after losing to the VIU Mariners in the finals. The Mariners are currently ranked at fifth while the Langara Falcons hold the top spot. The Sheridan Bruins sit in second. The Hurricanes are the only ACAA team that is ranked inside the top ten.
The Hurricanes began their regular season on Saturday with a road game versus the Dal-AC Rams which seen them walk away with a 108-40 victory.
The women’s Hurricanes enter the top ten after a solid off-season of recruiting, a strong pre-season and a season opening win on Saturday over the Dal-AC Rams by a score of 85-31. The ‘Canes are the second ACAA team ranked in the top ten; the STU Tommies have been placed in the second spot. The ‘Canes and Tommies will clash this Saturday at 2pm in Fredericton.
The Nomades de Montmorency of the RSEQ is ranked at number one.
