The Holland Hurricanes soccer and volleyball teams have received commitment from island native Hannah Oatway for the 2014-2015 ACAA season. Oatway is well-known as a multi-talented student athlete.

On the soccer field, the Kensington native attended the 2013 Club Nationals in St. John’s, Newfoundland with the Sherwood U18 women, as well as participated on Team PEI at the 2013 Canada Games in Sherbrooke, Quebec.

On the volleyball court, Oatway won a PEISAA silver medal in 2013 with Kensington Intermediate Senior High, attended the Volleyball Canada Center of Excellence program in 2013-2014 and has been selected for numerous All-Star and MVP awards through high school and club competition in recent years.

“I’m very excited to be joining the Hurricanes soccer and volleyball teams in the fall. Sports have been a very important part of my high school experience and I am looking forward to playing at the next level in college”, shared Oatway.

Kris McKinnon, head coach of the women’s soccer Hurricanes is glad to have Oatway in his lineup for this season.

“Adding a player of Hannah’s ability to our program is a huge plus. Having competed at the 2013 Canada Games she has gained valuable experience that will help her in the ACAA and boost our program as we challenge for another ACAA title.”

Women’s volleyball head coach Lori-Beth Dwyer shares similar thoughts on Oatway.

“Having coached Hannah through the Volleyball Centre of Excellence, I am thrilled to have her join our team. She is a versatile player who will bring a lot of energy to the floor.”

Oatway is eager to work with the coaching staff as well.

“I have had the chance to get to know Kris and Lori-Beth this past year when participating in training sessions. The Hurricanes soccer team had an outstanding season last fall under coach McKinnon’s leadership and I can’t wait for the opportunity to develop as a player with the Hurricanes. I’ve also had the chance to work with Lori-Beth in training sessions and it is obvious that she is passionate about volleyball and I am eager to be a part of her team.”

The hardworking athlete is up to the challenge of being a dual athlete with the Hurricanes. Oatway will be entering the Early Childhood Care and Education program.

“My personal goals for next season are to balance athletics and academics, play my best and to use every chance to learn and improve as a player!”
