‘Canes Volleyball Head to Regionals

The men’s volleyball Hurricanes are on the road this weekend to the ACAA Volleyball Championships hosted by Mount Allison University in Sackville, NB. They are ranked third, with a 4-8 record going into the championships. The ‘Canes first game is on Saturday, February 22 at 7:30 p.m. at the Canes take on the second place UNBSJ Seawolves in one of two conference semi-finals.
The two teams will engage in quite a battle as the season series indicates a close matchup. In their three games this year the teams split two and the third head to head went to five sets with UNBSJ winning in the end.
The Canes are led by veterans Mike Harris and Jeremy MacKinnon. As well, libero Brandon Boyce has impressed with his improving play, and rookie Nathan Barbour has quickly developed under the guidance of coach, Joe Ryan. Sam Bishop has stepped up his game for the Hurricanes heading down the stretch and will be need to contribute for the team to be successful. The recent addition of Jonathan Hovingh has added a great blocking feature for the Canes.
The winner of the championships will then travel to Caronport, SK for the 2014 CCAA Men’s Volleyball National Championship hosted by Briercrest College.
