Campbell and Kendrick chosen as Hurricanes Athletes of the Week

Hockey player Katie Campbell and basketball player Jake Kendrick have been chosen as the Holland Hurricanes Athletes of the Week for the week ending February 9.
Campbell, from Charlottetown, scored the game winner in Sunday’s women’s hockey victory for the Hurricanes when they defeated the Cape Breton University Capers at the Gateway Arena in Borden. Campbell’s shorthanded goal came at 8:47 into the first period and gave the Hurricanes a 2-0 lead over the Capers. They would eventually win the game 2-1 and end their inaugural season in the Eastern Canadian Women’s Collegiate Hockey League with a 2-8-2 record and in fourth place. The Hurricanes will join Acadia, UNB and CBU in Fredericton on March 15th and 16th for the ECWHL league championships.
Campbell is a student in the Tourism and Travel Management program. In 12 games played she scored twice, had two assists and four penalty minutes this season.
Kendrick, a Sport & Leisure Management student from Wolfville, Nova Scotia scored fourteen points off of the bench in Saturday’s game in Moncton versus the Crandall Chargers; he followed this up with a 22-point performance in Sunday’s home game versus the Mount Allison Mounties, shooting nine-for-thirteen from the field.
The Hurricanes fell to the Chargers on Saturday before defeating the Mounties on Sunday 94-57. The ‘Canes return to the floor this weekend when they host the UNBSJ Seawolves on Saturday at 8pm and Sunday at 4pm at Holland College’s Centre for Community Engagement.
The Hurricanes and battling with the Crandall Chargers and MSVU Mystics for the top spot in the ACAA men’s basketball standings; all three are nationally ranked by the CCAA.
