BBALL | Hurricanes to host Dal AC and STU in final regular season home games

The Holland College Hurricanes men’s basketball team will host the Dal AC Rams on Saturday before the men’s and women’s teams take on the STU Tommies on Sunday as they wrap up their regular season on home court at the Holland College Centre for Community Engagement.
The men’s Hurricanes, the 2017 CCAA Men’s Basketball National Championship hosts, enter weekend play with a 12-7 record and sit in fourth place in the ACAA.
The Hurricanes currently lead the conference in points per game, rebounds per game, assists per game, steals per game and blocks per game.
Individually, Trenity Burdine and Roosevelt Whyley sit first and third in the scoring race, averaging 19.6 and 18.3 points per game respectively.
Michael Kayeye is third in the ACAA with 3.5 assists per game and Jayden Nordin is right behind him in fifth averaging 3.4 assists per game.
The ‘Canes have taken both matchups with the Rams this year picking up wins in Charlottetown on January 29 and Truro on February 19.
The ‘Canes have also taken both matchups with the Tommies this year as they picked up wins in Charlottetown on November 19 and Fredericton on January 28.
The Rams enter play this weekend in a tie for fifth with a 5-15 record while the Tommies are in a tie for seventh at 4-15.
Game times are set for 2:00 PM on Saturday against the Rams and 4:00 PM on Sunday against the Tommies.
The women’s Hurricanes currently lead the league in points per game and assists per game while sitting second in blocks per game and steals per game.
Individually Jayla Verney leads the conference averaging 18.6 points per game. Verney is also third in assists per game and second in steals per game.
Tyleigha Nelson sits in a tie for sixth in rebounds per game, third in steals per game and fourth in blocks per game.
The number four ranked team in the CCAA, the Hurricanes, enter play with a 16-1 record and have clinched first place in the conference heading into next weekend’s ACAA Championships.
The ‘Canes have taken both matchups with the Tommies this year picking up wins in Charlottetown on November 19 and Fredericton on January 28.
The Tommies enter play in fourth place with an 8-8 record.
Tip-off is set for 2:00 PM on Sunday.
