BBALL | Hurricanes sweep mid-week games against STU in Fredericton

The Holland Hurricanes men’s and women’s basketball teams were victorious on Wednesday night in Fredericton, NB over the STU Tommies; the women picked up an 83-72 win while the men won 114-81.
In the women’s game, Breauna Rivoli-Johnson led the way offensively with 24 points along with six rebounds, five assists, and seven steals while Lexi MacInnis added a double-double with 14 points, 11 rebounds, one steal, and one block.
The other three starters all reached double figures for the ‘Canes with Jayla Verney (13 points, two rebounds, three assists, two steals), Tyleigha Nelson (12 points, seven rebounds, one assist, one steal, one block), and Ty’Keia Beals (ten points, four assists, four steals) all contributing to the win.
The win improves the ‘Canes record to 8-2 on the season which has them tied with Mount Allison for second place in the ACAA. The Tommies fall to 5-6 on the season and are in fourth place.
In the men’s game, Jace Colley led all scorers with 21 points with Michael Kayeye and Roosevelt Whyley scoring 16 points and grabbing seven rebounds each.
Kyle Lefave and Antonio Kostakos both reached double figures in scoring off the bench with 14 and ten respectively. Lefave added six rebounds and one steal while Kostakos also had eight rebounds.
The win improves the ‘Canes record to 11-1 on the season which has them alone in first place in the ACAA standings. The Tommies fall to 2-10 on the season and are tied for sixth.
The ‘Canes return to the court this weekend when they host the UNBSJ Seawolves on Saturday with the women’s game set to tip-off at 1pm and the men’s game at 3pm.
