The men’s and women’s Hurricanes road to repeat as ACAA champions begins this Saturday in Halifax, NS when they open up their 2017-18 regular seasons.

The ‘Canes will take on the MSVU Mystics on Saturday with the women tipping off at 4 PM and the men at 6 PM. On Sunday, the ‘Canes will take on the UKC Blue Devils with the women’s game starting at 12:30 PM and the men’s game at 2:30 PM.

The Hurricanes men’s basketball team have won the last five ACAA Championships and took home a bronze medal on home court at the 2017 CCAA Men’s Basketball National Championship; it was the second straight bronze medal and third overall at Nationals for the ‘Canes.

The Hurricanes finished the 2016-17 regular season in fourth place before winning all three playoff games to capture the ACAA Championship. Meanwhile, the Mystics finished in first place but would lose to the ‘Canes in the semi-finals.

Head coach Josh Whitty is looking forward to getting the season started.

“We feel that we improved throughout the preseason and look forward to opening ACAA regular season play. MSVU and UKC are always tough places to play and we’re expecting two tough games this weekend.”

The Hurricanes women’s basketball team have won the last three ACAA Championships and finished in eighth place at the 2017 CCAA Women’s Basketball Championship in Alberta.

The ‘Canes finished the 2016-17 regular season in first place and defeated the STU Tommies and the Mystics to take home the ACAA Championship. Meanwhile, the Mystics finished the regular season in second place and would finish in seventh place at nationals.

“We had a very challenging preseason, battled with injuries and learned a lot about ourselves. We’re looking forward to this weekend’s tests with MSVU and UKC as well as a competitive ACAA season,” shared head coach Jared Cheverie.

The games will be webcasted on www.acaatv.ca powered by Bell Aliant TV1.
