Baseball Hurricanes close regular season with a win as they prepare for playoffs
October 13, 2016
The Holland College Baseball Hurricanes travelled to Moncton, New Brunswick on Wednesday night and defeated Crandall by a score of 14-4 in a makeup game.
The game was scheduled to be nine innings and count as two wins in the standings. Due to the mercy rule coming into effect the game ended after seven innings.
‘Canes pitcher Catlin Sonier was credited with the victory.
The ‘Canes will now turn their attention towards their first round playoff matchup which starts this weekend. On Saturday the ‘Canes will take on the Saint Mary’s Huskies in games one and two of the best of three series. Game times are 1 and 3:30 at Memorial Field at Victoria Park. The ‘Canes will be looking to avenge last year’s first round exit in three games to the Huskies.
This season the Hurricanes and Huskies have met four times with Holland College taking all four wins.
If a game three is needed in the series it will take place on Sunday in Dartmouth.
In the other Atlantic conference playoff series the University of New Brunswick will host the Acadia Axemen on Saturday in Fredericton.
