Barrett and Bowden chosen as Hurricanes Athletes of the Week

Basketball players Jenea Barrett and Chase Bowden have been chosen as the Holland Hurricanes Athletes of the Week for the week ending March 16.
Barrett, a first year player for the Hurricanes from Toronto, Ontario travelled with her teammates to Saint-Lambert, Quebec last week to participate in the CCAA national women’s basketball championships. The Hurricanes were this seasons ACAA silver medalists.
In the tournaments opening game, Barrett scored 11 points and made eight rebounds in a losing effort to the Algonquin Thunder but would play a key role in Friday’s victory over the Champlain Cavaliers, leading the ‘Canes with 26 points in the game.
The Hurricanes season would come to an end on Saturday following a loss to the MacEwan Griffins in a game which seen Barrett record ten rebounds and score 25 points.
Barrett was named to the tournament’s 2nd All-Star team for her impressive play.
Bowden, a New Glasgow, Nova Scotia native, fresh off of an ACAA championship victory, led the Hurricanes to Squamish, British Columbia for the CCAA men’s national basketball championships.
The Hurricanes would drop their opening game in overtime to Vanier College which seen Bowden score 20 points to go along with 14 rebounds in the game.
On Friday the ‘Canes would bounce back into the win column with a victory over Concordia in a game that seen Bowden record 18 rebounds and 15 points. The ‘Canes would finish the tournament on Saturday following a loss to the Sheridan Bruins; Bowden recorded 16 points and 11 rebounds in the game.
For his strong play during the event Bowden was named to the CCAA’s 2nd Team All-Stars; he was also named a CCAA All-Canadian during Wednesday’s banquet.
