AOTW | States and Colley named Hurricanes Athletes of the Week

Women’s volleyball player Brittany States and men’s basketball player Jace Colley have been named the Holland Hurricanes Athletes of the Week for the week ending February 11.
States, a second year middle for the ‘Canes, led her team to victory on Saturday with 13 kills, seven digs and a block in a straight sets win. She added 13 more kills on Sunday along with six digs and two service aces in a four-set win; both matches were against the UKC Blue Devils at the Holland College Centre for Community Engagement.
This season, States is fourth in the ACAA in kills per set at 2.60 and third in total kills at 161.
The women’s volleyball Hurricanes sit at 16-3 and have clinched second place in the ACAA standings with two games remaining in their regular season; they visit the Mount Allison Mounties (7-12) on Saturday before finishing the season on Sunday in Fredericton versus the STU Tommies (14-5).
States is from Bathurst, New Brunswick and is studying in the Sport & Leisure Management program.
Colley, a first year forward for the Hurricanes had a strong game on Saturday in a 118-85 win over the Crandall Chargers. He scored 16 points, five rebounds, four assists and a block in the win.
This season, Colley sits in fourth in the ACAA in field goal percentage at 58% and second in blocks per game at 1.0.
The ‘Canes are 16-1 this season and leading the ACAA with four games remaining. They return to the court on Thursday when they host the second place Mount Allison Mounties (14-3) at 8pm at the Holland College Centre for Community Engagement.
Colley is from East Preston, Nova Scotia and studying in the Business Administration program.
