AOTW | Saunders and Whyley named Hurricanes Athletes of the Week

Women’s ringette player Isabelle Saunders and men’s basketball player Roosevelt Whyley have been named the Holland Hurricanes Athletes of the Week for the week ending January 21.
Saunders, a Computer Networking Technology program student from Charlottetown had a strong weekend for the ‘Canes as they competed in the 39th annual Harbour City Lakers Colt tournament in Dartmouth, NS over the weekend.
Saunders would finish second in scoring for the ‘Canes with eight points in five games.
The Hurricanes would go undefeated in the event, winning the championship game by a score of 4-3 over the SMU Huskies.
The Hurricanes are 9-3-1 this season and will hit the ice again this Saturday when they host the Acadia Axewomen at 12:45 and 3pm at the Gateway Arena in Borden for back-to-back games.
Whyley, a fourth year player from Nassau, Bahamas, led the Hurricanes to back-to-back wins over the weekend versus the UKC Blue Devils.
The 6’6 forward would score 26 points, adding 14 rebounds three assists and a block in the Hurricanes 133-92 win on Saturday before 18 points, 17 rebounds and five assists in Sunday’s 117-79 win; both games were played at the Holland College Centre for Community Engagement.
The Hurricanes are 10-1 this season and sit in a tie for top spot in the ACAA standings alongside the Mount Allison Mounties.
The ‘Canes return to the court on Wednesday night for a 7pm game in Fredericton, NB versus the STU Tommies. The next home game for the Hurricanes is this Saturday versus the UNBSJ Seawolves at 3pm.
