AOTW | Mason and Lapointe named Hurricanes Athletes of the Week

Women’s hockey player Kara Mason and men’s volleyball player Marcus Lapointe have been named the Holland Hurricanes Athletes of the Week for the week ending January 29.
Kara Mason, a second year goalie from Pictou County, NS, recorded a shutout victory on Saturday as the ‘Canes defeated the Acadia Axewomen 3-0 on Saturday at the Eastlink Centre in Charlottetown.
Mason now has four wins in five games, two shutouts, and a goals against average of 0.80 on the season.
Mason currently studies in the Sport & Leisure Management program.
The women’s hockey ‘Canes currently sit at 8-1-1 and lead the Atlantic standings.
The Hurricanes will play again on February 18 and 19 against the University of New Brunswick at the Eastlink Centre in Charlottetown.
Lapointe, a first year Libero, from Wolfville, NS had a pair of excellent defensive games as the ‘Canes split a pair of exciting five set matches with the STU Tommies in Fredericton.
On Saturday, in a 3-2 win, Lapointe recorded 15 digs and an assist while on Sunday he had 11 digs and one assist as the ‘Canes dropped a 3-2 decision to the Tommies.
Lapointe currently studies in the Business Administration Program.
The ‘Canes currently sit in first place in the ACAA with an 8-4 record and will return to the court on Sunday, February 5 when they host the Tommies at the Centre for Community Engagement. Game time is set for 4:00 PM
