AOTW | LeBlanc and Butler named Hurricanes Athletes of the Week

February 27, 2018

Volleyball players Megan LeBlanc and Brett Butler have been named the Holland Hurricanes Athletes of the Week for the week ending February 25.

LeBlanc, a second year player from Fredericton, NB, was named the ACAA women’s Player of the Year on Friday as well as an ACAA All-Conference player. She helped the Hurricanes to a regular season record of 18-3 where they would finish second.

LeBlanc led the ACAA in kills during the regular season with 249, which is also a Hurricanes team record for most in a single season. She finished second in kills per set (3.56) and total digs (203) and fifth in digs per set (2.90) in the conference.

This weekend, at the ACAA Championships, she took over the women’s volleyball Hurricanes record for most career kills with 420; she passed the previous record of 407 held by Sydney Foy.

The Hurricanes season ended on Saturday in the ACAA semi-final match when they fell to the STU Tommies in five sets.

LeBlanc is studying in the Business Administration program at Holland College.

Butler, a fourth year player from Charlottetown, PEI, was named the men’s ACAA Player of the Year on Friday as well as an ACAA All-Conference player. He led the Hurricanes to a regular season record of 13-2 which positioned the Hurricanes as the number one seed entering last weekend’s ACAA Championships.

Statistically, Butler led the conference in kills per set with 3.78 and total kills with 189.   He also finished in second in hitting percentage with .307 and fourth with 0.40 service aces per set.

Butler is the Hurricanes men’s volleyball leader for all-time games and sets played; he also holds the career record for the most total digs and kills.

The ‘Canes would fall to the STU Tommies in the ACAA Championship game on Sunday in four sets.

Butler is a journalism student at Holland College.
