AOTW | Dunn and Kayeye named Hurricanes Athletes of the Week

Women’s hockey player Katelyn Dunn and men’s basketball player Michael Kayeye have been named the Holland Hurricanes Athletes of the Week for the week ending February 4.

Dunn, a first year forward for the ‘Canes, helped lead Holland College to an undefeated weekend on the road versus UNB in Fredericton, NB.

On Saturday, in a 3-0 win, Dunn played a solid game at both ends of the ice before scoring twice in Sunday’s 4-1 victory.  Dunn sits in a tie for third in league scoring this season and second for goals scored.

With the two wins on the weekend the Hurricanes improve to 10-4-0 and have opened up a six-point lead in the standings over UNB (7-5-0).  They have just two regular season games remaining this season when they take on the Acadia Axewomen on March 2 and 3 in Wolfville, NS.

The Hurricanes will host the 2018 Atlantic Collegiate Women’s Hockey Championship on March 23-25 at the Cavendish Farms Wellness Centre in Montague.

Dunn is from New Glasgow, NS and studying in the Pastry Arts program.

Kayeye, a third year player for the Hurricanes, had 11 points, nine rebounds, three assists and three blocks in Saturdays 101-62 win followed by 13 points, five rebounds and two assists in Sunday’s 112-88 victory; both games were played against the UKC Blue Devils in Charlottetown.

Kayeye is sixth in the ACAA in steals averaged per game this season.

The ‘Canes continue to lead the ACAA standings with a record of 15-1; they lead the second place Mount Allison Mounties (12-3), third place Crandall Chargers (11-5) and fourth place MSVU Mystics (10-7) entering this weekend’s play.

On Saturday the ‘Canes host the Chargers at the Holland College Centre for Community Engagement at 4pm before visiting the UNBSJ Seawolves on Sunday at 5:30pm in Saint John, NB.

Kayeye is from Malton, ON and studying in the Sport & Leisure Management program.
