Alexis Belle of the Bahamas will wear Hurricanes uniform this season
June 11, 2014
The six foot power forward from Nassau, Bahamas spent last season at the Broward College in Fort Lauderdale, Florida and the year previous she graduated high school in Wichita, Kansas.
In her final year of high school in Kansas Belle averaged ten points per game and eight rebounds while at Broward College last season she averaged five points and eight rebounds per game.
In recent years Belle has had the opportunity to represent her country, the Bahamas, on their national team, bringing home the gold medal in the process.
“My strengths as a player would be my hustle up and down the court, communicating and my athleticism”, shared Belle.
She is not just a basketball player; she has excelled at volleyball, soccer, softball and track and field in the past.
“I’m excited to be coming to Holland College to further my growth as a student and as a player”, Belle expressed when asked her thoughts on moving to PEI this fall.
“With Alexis having played high school in Kansas and junior college in Florida we are expecting her to make a significant contribution to our success”, shared head coach Mike Connolly. “She is a post player who will be a great compliment to Ashley Moss and Katiesha Brissett.
She’s already begun to set goals for herself this season.
“I want to work hard and give 110% every day. I’d like to work on my weaknesses too. I feel my rebounding can help contribute to this team but I just have to play my game, do my part and not overthink. I’ll be the player working hard right up until the final buzzer rings, no matter the situation”, she shared.
The Hurricanes are the 2014 ACAA silver medalists and expect to have a strong season with a roster made up of returning players and strong recruits. The team was 19-2 last season and finished sixth at the CCAA National Women’s Basketball Championships in Quebec.
