ACAA Soccer Championships being hosted by Hurricanes this weekend

The Atlantic Collegiate Athletic Association’s men’s and women’s soccer championships are set to take place this weekend at the Terry Fox Complex in Cornwall, Prince Edward Island; Holland College and the Holland Hurricanes are the host school for the event featuring the top four teams from the men’s and women’s 2013 ACAA regular season standings.
The tournament will kick off with the ACAA All-Conference awards banquet at Holland College’s Tourism and Culinary Centre in Charlottetown. The dinner will begin at 7 pm and will be highlighted by the announcement of the first and second All-Conference teams for both the men and women as well as individual awards such as the Rookie of the Year, Coach of the Year and Player of the Year.
Play begins on Saturday morning at 10 am with the first women’s semi-final clash between the number two ranked Mount Saint Vincent Mystics (8-2-2) and number three ranked St. Thomas University Tommies (7-3-2). In the two regular season matches this season the Tommies took the first game by a score of 1-0 on September 15th while the Mystics earned the 3-0 victory on October 6th.
At 12:15 pm the number one ranked University of King’s College Blue Devils (9-0-3) and the fourth ranked hosts, the Holland Hurricanes (5-4-3) square off in the second women’s semi-final game of the day. The Blue Devils were victorious in the season’s first matchup between these two teams on September 8th by a score of 2-0 but the teams tied their match on September 29th 2-2 in Halifax.
The two winners of these semi-final games will move on to play in the ACAA championship games at 12 noon on Sunday.
In the men’s division the first semi-final match will take place at 2:30 pm between the number one ranked Mount Saint Vincent University Mystics (7-1-4) and the fourth ranked UNB Saint John Seawolves (4-2-6). The Seawolves are the hosts of the 2013 CCAA national men’s championships beginning November 6th. These two teams have played each other even throughout the season tying both matchups on September 14th 2-2 and on October 5th 1-1.
The day’s final game will feature the host and second ranked Holland Hurricanes (6-1-5) and the third ranked University of King’s College Blue Devils (7-3-2) at 4:45 pm. These two teams tied both of their matches this season, first on September 8th 1-1 and again on September 29th 0-0.
The winners of the two men’s semi-final games will face-off in the ACAA Championship game on Sunday at 2:30 pm.
Admission to all games is $5.00 per person while Holland College students and kids in grade 12 or younger receive free admission to all games.
