12 Days of Christmas countdown #4: Baseball application submitted for Hurricanes
December 21, 2013
Since starting athletic programs in 2004, Holland College has steadily grown its varsity sports portfolio, along with building a profile to match some of the better-regarded colleges in Canada both on the field and in the classroom.
Our #4 story takes us to a recent development, as it was recently announced that the Hurricanes plan to field a baseball team in time for the 2014-15 season. Baseball is set to become the school’s 13th team, spread across eight different sports.
Pending final approval, the Hurricanes would be the seventh team to join the Canadian Collegiate Baseball Association’s Atlantic Conference. The Hurricanes will play against the Cape Breton University Capers, the Crandall University Chargers, the Dalhousie University Tigers, the St. Francis Xavier University X-Men, the Saint Mary’s University Huskies, and the University of New Brunswick Cougars.
The Hurricanes will play out of Memorial Field in 2014. Located in Victoria Park in Charlottetown, Memorial Field recently hosted the 2008 Under-21 national baseball championships, along with the 2009 Canada Summer Games.
