In sport, the word dynasty is occasionally thrown around whenever a team has a period of sustained success. For the men’s golf Hurricanes, the term couldn’t be more appropriate.

Though the pieces change from year to year, the Hurricanes have always gotten the most out of their players. In October, the men’s golf Hurricanes rewrote the ACAA record book, and their success makes them the #3 story from the season so far.

Going into the ACAA Championships at The Links at Crowbush Cove, the Hurricanes had won both team events, rounding further into form as their margin of victory increased from 22 in the first event to 48 the next time around.

From there, the Hurricanes took Crowbush by storm. In windy conditions at Crowbush, the team of Mathieu Arseneault, Eric Locke, Neal Ryan, Justin Shanks, and Brett Wilson pulled through to a two-day total of 601, good for a 105-shot victory over the second-place St. Thomas Tommies. The victory represents an unprecedented eighth consecutive team championship in men’s golf for the Hurricanes.

Locke led the way for the Hurricanes, setting an ACAA record with a 5-under 139 total, 14 shots clear of the second-place Arseneault. Locke, Arseneault, Wilson, Shanks, and Ryan also had the top five individual scores for the weekend.

From there, it was on to Royal Quebec Golf Club for the PING CCAA golf championships. The Hurricanes showed they belong among Canada’s best programs, as all five players finished in the top 30 in the individual competition. As a team, the Hurricanes finished fifth a three-day total of 888, 25 shots behind the Fraser Valley Cascades.

The Hurricanes have long been dominant in ACAA golf, but this year was one for the history books, and their accomplishments are to be celebrated.

We’re almost there, folks! On the day before Christmas Eve, we will unveil our #2 story en route to completing our 12 Days of Christmas.

The Holland Hurricanes will be counting down the top 12 moments from the 2013-14 season so far, beginning Friday, December 13th until the #1 moment is revealed on Christmas Eve on their website and Facebook page. Count down with us as we celebrate the Hurricanes successes as we enter 2014!
