12 Days of Christmas countdown #10: Men’s Soccer Hurricanes fall in extra time in ACAA championship match
December 16, 2013
Clocking in at #10 on our list, we look back at the men’s soccer Hurricanes, who fought valiantly before coming up just short at the ACAA Championship in Cornwall.
Though they weren’t quite as dominant as they had been in recent seasons, the Hurricanes came into the ACAA Championship as the second seed with a 6-1-5 record.
In the semi-finals, the Hurricanes faced the University of King’s College Blue Devils in a rematch of the 2012 ACAA championship game. It was a hard-fought affair that needed extra time, where Geoff Pellerin converted a penalty kick early in the first session to give the Hurricanes a 1-0 win.
From there, it was on to the championship game against the Mount St. Vincent Mystics. Once again, it was a hard-fought contest on both sides that couldn’t be settled in 90 minutes. However, the Hurricanes’ quest for a three-peat ended as the Mystics won 1-0 in extra time.
Even though they didn’t win, the Hurricanes’ resiliency through four hours of soccer that weekend gives them the #10 spot in our 12 Days of Christmas.
The Holland Hurricanes will be counting down the top 12 moments from the 2013-14 season so far, beginning Friday, December 13th until the #1 moment is revealed on Christmas Eve on their website and Facebook page. Count down with us as we celebrate the Hurricanes successes as we enter 2014!
