Hurricanes Football Club to hold Spring Training Mini-Camp
Charlottetown, PE - Atlantic Football League champions the Holland College Hurricanes will hold a mini-camp for all returning players and prospects for the 2012 season on Saturday, May 12, from 1:30 to 4 p.m. at the indoor practice facility in Stratford.
Once again, Coach Steve "Macca" MacDonald of the Malden (Massachusetts) High School Golden Tornadoes will be on hand to help out at the camp, which will include combine testing, including bench press, 40-yard dash, vertical jump, broad jump, and shuttle.
Coach MacDonald is assistant head coach and offensive line and linebackers coach for the Malden High School team. He has over twenty years of coaching experience from Pop Warner youth football through to high school and the NCAA college level. During his time with the Malden High program, Coach MacDonald has coached a fifth round NFL draft pick, Breno Giacomini of the Seattle Seahawks; two All-Scholastic players; one Super 26 All-State player; and numerous players who have gone on to perform at the NCAA level. Over the years, his various teams have won conference and state titles and achieved national rankings.
Along with his high school coaching duties, Coach "Macca" organizes football camps (including NFL Junior Development Camps) in the Greater Boston area and elsewhere in New England. Last summer he assisted at the Wes Welker Football ProCamp in Massachusetts.
Returning players and prospects who are unable to attend the camp must notify the Hurricanes Football administrative office. For more information regarding the camp, visit the club's Facebook page at www.facebook.com/HCFootball.

Hurricanes Football Club welcomes young players to camp with Argos' Ted Goveia
Charlottetown, PE - As part of his visit to P.E.I., Toronto Argonauts scout Ted Goveia will participate in a football skills clinic with local players. The event will be held at the Stratford Soccer Complex on Saturday, March 31. Holland College Hurricanes players and prospects will take to the field first at 5:30 p.m. Local high school and bantam players are invited to join the team from 6:30 p.m. until 8 p.m.
Mark MacDougall, head coach for the Hurricanes, is looking forward to meeting the high school and bantam players.
"Part of what we want to accomplish here is strengthening the connection between the football clubs on P.E.I. and the Hurricanes program," he said. "We want our young players to see the Hurricanes as the next step in their football development. Getting on the field with current players and learning some skills with them is a great opportunity. It is also a way for our players to give back to the younger players."
Hurricanes Football Club president Mike O'Grady agrees.
"We are delighted to be able to invite young football players and their coaches to join us. Mr. Goveia is a wealth of information and experience, and this an opportunity for all of us to learn more not just about the game of football, but about the business of professional football as well."
Goveia will help with the clinic and discuss what it takes to have a successful football career, from the earliest stages to the professional level. There is no charge for the clinic and no equipment is required other than cleats. For more information about the camp, please contact Mark MacDougall at doogs@eastlink.ca.

Charlottetown, PE - The Holland College Hurricanes Football Club recognized the extraordinary contributions of eight players in its Atlantic Football League championship season and paid tribute to an exceptional booster club member at its annual banquet recently.

For the second year in a row, offensive guard Owen MacWilliams was chosen as Lineman of the Year. Running back Dave Clark received the APM Construction Services Offensive Player of the Year award. Clark, who rushed for 1,498 yards and scored 15 touchdowns this season, was also in his final year of eligibility. Defensive end Ryan Adams, who led the team in tackles, was named Rookie of the Year.
