Joseph Spriet Scholarship Program
Description: In honour of the tremendous contribution that Joseph Spriet made to the 2009 Canada Games Host Society, the Joseph Spriet Scholarship Award was established by the Province of Prince Edward Island. Mr. Spriet is a well-known businessman, who is active in Island sports, community groups, as well as social and business groups. He recognizes the importance of education, sport, and community involvement in the development of youth and their accomplishments. This scholarship will support the youth of today and those of the future.

Criteria: Must have successfully completed one year post-secondary; OR have graduated high school and have been in the work force for at least one year post graduation; OR entering a post-secondary institution that offers accommodations for learners with disabilities. High school students entering their first year of post-secondary must have at least one year of work experience post-graduation. Must be a resident of Prince Edward Island. Must be pursuing full time studies in Human Services, Business, Sports or Agriculture. Must have competed 200 hours in one, or a combination of, volunteer work, sports and charitable organizations. Application supported by 2 or more letters of reference. Not a prior recipient of this scholarship. A Human Service practitioner is a professional who acts as an agent to assist and/or empower individuals, groups, families and communities to prevent, alleviate or better cope with crisis, change and stress enabling them to function effectively in all areas of life and living. ie: Youth Worker, Residential Worker, Drug Abuse Counsellor, Social Service Aid, Adult Day Care Worker, Probation Office, Rehabilitation Case Worker, Mental Health Aid, Group Home Worker, Child Abuse Worker, etc...
