Joseph W. Lawrence Award for Excellence in Culinary Arts
Description: Mr. Joseph W. Lawrence, chef and former instructor in Holland College’s Hotel and Restaurant Management program, passed away in March of 2011. In Mr. Lawrence’s memory, his daughters, Jo-Ann and Gail, and his son, Ken, established this award for the annual benefit of a 2nd year Culinary Arts student.
Criteria: Nominees must be 2nd year Culinary Arts students in good academic standing who demonstrate a solid work ethic and commitment to the program; professionalism (dress, attitude, communication, ethical standards, etc.), active participation (in program-related activities within the classroom, industry, and the community); and creativity. Students need not apply for this award. Applications are based on nomination by a Culinary Arts faculty member. Applications will be reviewed by a Selection Committee appointed by the College’s Registrar, which will include Chef Hans Anderegg, as well as a representative from the Lawrence Family. Financial need may also be taken into consideration by the Selection Committee.
