Welcome to the Surveyor Online
The Surveyor is published 10 times a year by the Journalism department of Holland College, P.E.I. and printed at the Guardian, a daily newspaper in the provincial capital, Charlottetown.
Journalism students produce all the stories, editorials, photographs and graphics in the 16-page tabloid. A management team composed of two managing editors and two copy editors conduct story meetings, then layout each edition.
The college newspaper provides a good vehicle for publication of the students' early work. The bylined stories and photographs form the first entries in their portfolios.
The Journalism department features the latest in desktop publishing equipment - a Macintosh computer complete with Internet and electronic mail for every work station (30), a production area for The Surveyor with state-of-the-art computers, four laptops, a flatbed and a negative scanner and several digital cameras. All of the computers are equipped with QuarkXPress, the desktop software most widely used in the newspaper industry.
Two on-line editors have the option of putting their newspaper online.
