Patterson's wind blows reader away

By Julie Clinton

With the advances of science in the 20th century, creating a new "improved" human doesn't seem so far-fetched as it once was.

This is the premise behind James Patterson's novel When the Wind Blows, which examines the premature advancing of human evolution.

Frannie O'Neill is a small-town Colorado veterinarian struggling to go through life alone after her husband's murder, but when she meets rogue FBI agent Kit Harrison her life begins to change.

They discover Max, a genetically engineered little girl possessing the best attributes of both bird and human in a stunning combination.

Together they seek to expose the clandestine operation of scientists and society's elite behind these genetic experiments.

When the Wind Blows takes a close look at the amazing possibilities of genetic engineering and serves as a warning of the frightening consequences of playing God.
