By Ian Whynacht Students at the Charlottetown Centre who use the coffee shop should look forward to greeting Darlene Hambly and Bonnie MacDonald, the new staff this year. Hambly and MacDonald are here after Nova Scotia company Delston Inc. received the contract for the cafeteria, replacing the previous holder of the contract, Beaver Foods. Hambly, the cafeteria supervisor, says the first thing they want to do is set up a suggestion box to give them an idea of what students are looking for. "We want to try to accommodate the students as best we can," she says. "It's very important. Without the students we wouldn't be here." The staff and maintenance personnel at Charlottetown Centre have been very cooperative and helpful in their running of a smooth operation, she says. MacDonald agrees. "If you need help with something they're there to help," MacDonald says. She says she feels the work area in Charlottetown Centre is a little smaller than the one in Royalty Centre. "It's a smaller kitchen area here, but other than that it's not too bad." Before coming to Charlottetown Centre both women worked at the cafeteria in Royalty Centre. According to Hambly, they're still waiting for some of the equipment to arrive before their operation can get up and running. She adds if the first week is any indication of what the year will be like there may be the addition of cappuccino and fountain juice machines. "If the sales stay up, we'll be getting these things." She explains that during the first week they were seeing on average 250 students a day. Delston Inc. has a one year contract with Charlottetown Centre. "This company is really excited about being on the Island," Hambly says. "They're willing to accommodate as best they can." She says she would like the students to voice any concerns or complaints about the cafeteria to them and see how they can be of some help. "If the student wants something changed we would like them to come to us, give us the suggestion and we would be more than willing to accommodate them."
