The best in their respective fields
met over their weekend to duke it out for the right to compete nationally.
Aircraft maintenance, auto service, carpentry and electrical wiring
professionals met at the Home Show at the Charlottetown Civic Centre.
At the same time, IT/PC Network Support pros and IT/PC Software Applications
beat it out at the Charlottetown Centre of Holland College.
Competitions ran about six hours, with everyone receiving the same
tools, time and space. Winners will be off to Vancouver from May 31
to June 1.
To participate in the competition, each partipant agrees to a training
plan to train for the Nationals. Skills Canada will pay for most of
the trip, though competitors must contribute $200.
There is one last provincial competition at Holland CollegeÕs Slemon
Park location April 11 in the field of industrial wiring.
Automative Service Technology graduate St. Clair Geldert fiddles with
the innards of a Monte Carlo. Geldert took time off from his three
year apprenticeship to take part in the automotive skills competition.
Charlottetown Rural High School student Shawn Callaghan sands down
the firewood brace he built during the competition.
Dylan Taylor, 3, wasnÕt a competitor, but still wanted to play
with the controls of a 3,000 kilogram CAT Skid Steer Loader during
the Home Show.
