The photography class at Holland College is wrapping up their fund-raising efforts with a print sale.

The class has been raising money all year for the annual Maritime Professional Photography Association's print competition.

The competition is part of a week-long event held in a different Maritime location every year.

This year the class will be heading to Fredericton, N.B. for a week of seminars, trade shows, a banquet and the coveted prize of Photography Student of the Year.

Each participant must enter four prints if they want to win the prize and last year the Holland College class was nominated for three of the four student prizes.

The event is costly for the students, who must pay for transportation, accommodation and meals so the class spends a lot of time raising money to cover those expenses.

Their prints will be judged by a panel of professional photographers and the recognition they gain from the event will be useful in future careers.

"It's all about recognition," said Joni Campbell, one of the students working at the sale.

You must be a member of the photography association to enter in the competition and membership isn't cheap.

"Membership isn't too bad for students, but it's pretty expensive for professionals," said Kate Bannister, who was also helping at the sale.

The prints are provided by the students and as most members of the class put in at least one print the money is divided up among the class.

Their fundraising efforts have been successful this year, says Campbell as they have already made more than last year.

Prints range in price depending on size. A small one is $6 and is about 5'x7", medium is $12 and 8'x10" and a large is $18 at 8'x14" or larger.

The class plans to have another sale in April after the competition, featuring the prints they're entering in the competition.
