Has anyone seen our missing sidewalks?

It's no use trying to get anywhere in a hurry. Many streets are down to one lane and motorists must share the road with pedestrians.

Prince Edward Island has not seen much snow in recent years, so it was especially surprising to see two feet of it fall practically overnight. The plows were unprepared.

Nearly a week later snow still blocks Charlottetown's streets and there is more snow coming our way.

This is the first major storm since the city's amalgamation in 1994 and the plows have a large area to cover. But there was plenty of advance notice of the storm and the city should have been prepared for the worst. If you have tried to walk anywhere in this city, you'll know they were not.

Along with the plows, the tow trucks have been busy. Since the roads and parking lots are congested, people have been parking in some really dumb places. So if your car has disappeared, you probably shouldn't have parked there.

It seems as though Charlottetown's sidewalks have disappeared as well. City workers have managed to find a few of them, but many are still missing.

It's all part of winter in Canada and no matter how much we complain about it, we'll go through it all again next year.

Maybe the city of charlottetown can invest in snow shoes for every resident and save the plows from the burden of clearing off our sidewalks.
