Human Resource Management

New applicants to the joint Human Resource Management program are not being accepted as this program is currently under review. Currently registered students must have all components of the joint program completed by May, 2013. Specifically, currently registered students must apply to complete the Holland College program no later than the September 2012 cohort intake. Holland College and UPEI are currently investigating additional HRM training opportunities.

Program Components

Skills Building

Students are required to complete the following seven Holland College courses: Planning & Management, Occupational Health & Safety, Recruitment & Selection, Training & Development, Performance Management, Developing Compensation Programs, and Change & Technology. Job-specific skills will be developed through study and practice via individualized and group learning activities.

Field Placement

In addition to the Holland College and UPEI course components within the Human Resource Management certificate program, a field placement is required to promote experiential learning and curriculum integration. In order to satisfy this requirement, participants must demonstrate the completion of a 4-week or 150 hour on-the job-training experience. This experience must take place in a human resources department or the human resource management function within a professional environment such as a business or government office.

Sequencing

Candidates begin their studies by applying at UPEI for admission into the HRM Certificate program. Once accepted into the program, students can register for the three UPEI credit courses. Following the completion of these courses, students can enroll at Holland College and complete the remaining specialty courses. Students without HRM experience work voluntarily in the human resources office of an organization to meet the field requirement.
